Founding Story

I started this venture as an outlet for the creative energies of my small but gritty town, hundreds of kilometres away from the next major city. Over the last 15+ years, I’ve dabbled in a whole lot of diverse areas. From crafting handmade scarves for European brands, to weaving handloom and Jamdani fabrics for Indian, European, US, South African brands, and finally to designing contemporary handloom based clothing for the global retail customer - it’s been an invigorating journey.

I launched our brand as ArtAnt over 3 years ago, to make luxury handmade clothing accessible. We put in a lot of time towards research as well as training. We researched traditional Indian crafts such as Jamdani, kantha, applique, hand embroidery and many others, to bring their essence into modern day silhouettes. We trained our karigars in these arts, sometimes from scratch like when we trained over 300 housewives in the art of hand embroidery!

While we received a tremendous response at launch when we hit our partner stores, there were quite a lot of learnings too. The primary one being that we needed to be much more attentive and closer to you, our lovely customers - in a very direct way. Therefore, about 3 years into this journey as a brand, we decided to go direct and launch our online shop, rebranding as Sarron.

Ever since, the ride has been nothing short of exhilarating. We’ve gone out of stock multiple times. We’ve been inundated with your love and messages. Crucially, we’ve been able to provide regular employment to the handloom weavers and karigars in our area.

All of Sarron’s clothes are handmade by our karigars in Bengal. Each karigar has more than 6+ years of experience, with some having worked with me for more than 15 years now. They don’t have to travel hundreds of kilometres to find a livelihood in big cities, can stay with their families, and get paid fair and above-market wages. I sincerely hope we keep on supporting their craft.
